There is an irresistible attraction to neon lights, disco balls, a boom box, beats, synths and screaming guitars….
Grandview Avenue creates its own sound, fluidly moving between original work, deep house and rock in which hope filled dreams and dark reality melts together to form tracks that invite to sing along and are carried by a cresting mix of electro and solid guitars. With an identity of its own and a convincing performance they flirt with the stages of multiple festival venues in The Netherlands.
Just one year ago five musicians crossed paths and they decided to hang out on Grandview Avenue, named after a street in San Francisco. Diversity, a variety of musical influences and Frisco’s raw, down town city vibe is projected by the band.
A shared love for the electro, pop, rock, freaky and seriously manipulated soundscapes of the 80’s ties the members of the band together. During performances the band’s singer, MEOW, challenges herself, the band and the audience; show your inhibition and if things turn freaky, all the better.
After traveling with a variety of rock, pop and theatre productions through Europe and Asia, lead singer Sanne Mieloo decided to return to The Netherlands. This was very good news for the good friends Niley and Paolo. They were looking for a vocalist to tie together their musical backgrounds into a new, electric rock band. Niley decided to trade in the jazz brushes for drumsticks and an electric drum kit. Paolo could not wait to add his 80’s rock licks to the sound. After a long and tough search for a bass player they found their match in Rogier. As DJ Roger Paolo he earned his stripes within the Amsterdam club scene and like no other he knows how rock and electro are able to go hand-in-hand.
Within the first two months of its existence, Grandview Avenue is booked for the Plein7 Festival. With its first live performance on September 13, 2015 the band manages to immediately win over the audience. The critics are full of praise and they are compared with bands like Moloko, CHVRVHES, Faithless and Editors. The following winter the band spends time in a variety of studios in search for their own, unique sound. The members of the band are deadly serious about recording sessions and production. ‘Split Second Sound’ Studio in Amsterdam becomes the choice to have the programming and mixing done. In January 2016 the band signs up with 4CE Productions, a German booking agency. On April 29, 2016 the band presents the mini-album ‘The Game is On’ in ‘popzaal MEZZ’, Breda.
The first festival season for Grandview Avenue will start this coming summer and the band will perform at a variety of festival Venues in The Netherlands. This season the band will also cross the border. In July, Grandview Avenue will perform on the main stage of the Gay Pride Festival in Cologne (Germany)
